Warley Place nature reserve is spectacular in spring, when an abundance of snowdrops, followed by daffodils and crocuses can be seen. The reserve will be open to the public every weekend between Saturday 24 February to Sunday 15 April, including Good Friday and Easter Monday, from 10.00am to 5.00pm daily, weather permitting. Volunteers will be on hand to give you guidance and answer your questions.
This 25-acre reserve was the former home of one of the most famous female gardeners, Miss Ellen Willmott. She remodelled the gardens and introduced into them a vast assortment of new plants from all over the world. Some are still found on the reserve. The garden had fallen into neglect but has been restored, not in its original form, by an enthusiastic team of Essex Wildlife Trust volunteers.
Join Essex Wildlife Trust and Essex & Suffolk Water as we celebrate our amazing wetland site, Abberton Reservoir on World Wetlands Day Friday 2nd February, from 10am-3pm. Guided walks around the nature reserve will be available throughout the day; normal entry donation is requested.
Do you want to make a difference for Wildlife in Essex? A volunteer warden is required to regularly monitor Woodham Fen. The Warden will report to the reserves office at the Essex Wildlife Trust Main Office’s. Full training will be provided. Volunteers need a willingness to be outside, a keen eye for spotting change, an appreciation of the importance of keeping records up to date and the ability to be self-motivated.
Overview:
• Checking on local nature reserves, effectively being the Trust’s eyes and ears on the ground for a particular reserve.
• Communicating effectively with the Trust’s staff about any issues with the reserve.
• Independently following appropriate guidelines for safe practice and lone working.
