We are looking for extra help over the christmas period in our visitor centres.
Christmas is one of our busiest times of year and we also tend to have the fewest volunteers as everyone is spending (well deserved !) time with friends and family. Many visitor choose to visit us in the time between chirstmas and new year to walk of chritmas excesses and then can’t resist popping in to the visitor centre for more mince pies!
We are looking for extra help in our christmas grottos, and in our visitor centres more generally.
At the Essex Wildlife Trust, the health and wellbeing of our staff and volunteers is just as much of a priority as the wildlife we protect. This year, we have even been awarded Highly Commended at the CIPD Awards for Best Health and Wellbeing Initiative!

A very well received presentation giving us a glimpse into the very interesting and varied wildlife of the Americas. Some were of the expected and some of the unusual, the latter taking great patients, a good guide and luck to capture that shot. These ranged from the tiny hummingbirds to vultures, capibara, giant anteaters and otters, caimen to the jaguar. Wonderfully captured.
The warden will report to the Landscape Conservation office at the Essex Wildlife Trust Main Office’s outside of Colchester. Full training will be provided. Volunteers need a willingness to be outside, a keen eye for spotting change, an appreciation of the importance of keeping records up to date and the ability to be self-motivated.

It is Recycle Week, and we are offering you the opportunity to do a good deed by donating your old bras! Donate to selected visitor centres across the county and you can be sure you are supporting people and wildlife. Bras are processed to be sold at a reduced price overseas, in parts of the world where they can often be in short supply. This also saves them from landfill and raises funds for wildlife in the process.
Blue House Farm nature reserve in North Fambridge saw close to 350 people flock to it last weekend to listen to television presenter Michaela Strachan talk about her life and career.
The role is primarily an administrative one involving liaising with landowners and volunteers to coordinate site visits, logging enquiries, reviewing and filing relevant documentation, supporting training events and the promotion of the initiative.
The role would suit someone who is a competant Microsoft Office user and who can ideally volunteer one half day a week, on any day Monday - Friday.
