On a very bright morning, RSPB’s Vange Marsh promised to provide a wide range of waterfowl, waders and scrubland birds. Nine pairs of binoculars were not disappointed. All the usual culprit ducks were present with a very large number of Widgeon as well as Black Tailed Godwit, Avocet and Redshank. Raptors seen were Sparrowhawk, Kestrel and a pair of Marsh Harriers.
After lunch, the two RSPB hides at Wat Tyler provided Buzzard and a small flock of Curlew. Altogether, 47 species were seen as well as Water Rail, Cetti’s Warbler and Greenfinch heard calling.
