A good turn out in the very hot weather promised a good variety of butterflies to be seen at this mixed environment location. The south facing grass meadows were alive with Meadow Browns, Marbled Whites as well as the Small and Essex Skippers. A surprise was a single Clouded Yellow, which is a migrant and usually seen in August onwards. Along the tree lined meadows there was an abundance of Purple Hairstreaks and into the woods, a few Silver-washed Fritillary. A very hot and exhausting day, although, well worth the effort of twenty different varieties
