Essex Wildlife Trust position statement: Bovine TB in Cattle and the Badger Cull

Introduction

Badgers are being culled as part of a government initiative to reduce the spread of bovine tuberculosis (bTB) in cattle. In September 2017 the Government licenced 11 new areas for badgers culling, in western England. Now, in September 2018 badgers are at risk in Staffordshire and Cumbria, in addition to the existing areas of Gloucestershire, Somerset, Dorset, Cornwall, Devon, Herefordshire, Cheshire and Wiltshire.
