Crayfish Ecology & Identification

Date / Time
Start date:
Mon, 24/07/2017 - 10:00am - 4:00pm
Summary:
This course provides an introduction to crayfish ecology and identification. We will look at the known distribution in Essex and the ecology of native and non-native crayfish species. By the end of the day participants will be able to distinguish the three species found in Essex – our native White-clawed Crayfish and the invasive Signal Crayfish and Turkish Crayfish. Participants will also be acutely aware of the risks of transferring Crayfish Plague from river to river and of measures to prevent its spread (drying/sterilising equipment, boots, nets etc.).
